Popular comedian and activist, Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has criticized Nigerian Senators for praising the government instead of holding it accountable. He expressed his disappointment on social media, highlighting what he described as a failure of oversight.
Macaroni said it was “embarrassing” that legislators sing praises for a government they are supposed to monitor closely. He emphasized that the role of Senators is to check and balance the powers of the executive, not to blindly applaud its actions.
He added that citizens expect their representatives to question policies, ensure accountability, and safeguard public interest, rather than engage in empty celebrations. According to him, praising without scrutiny undermines democracy.
The comedian urged lawmakers to refocus on their constitutional duties, reminding them that true leadership involves transparency, responsibility, and holding power to account.
