Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja Shaibu, has confirmed that the Nigerian Army is set to recruit 24,000 new soldiers. He said the large-scale recruitment is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security system and provide more manpower to fight growing security challenges across different regions.
According to Shaibu, the recruitment drive will help the Army respond faster to cases of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other threats. He explained that having more trained personnel is necessary because the security landscape has changed, and the military must be prepared to protect citizens more effectively.
The Army Chief also stressed that the recruitment process will be open, transparent, and merit-based. He noted that young Nigerians who meet the requirements will be given equal opportunities, as the military aims to build a strong, disciplined, and professional force. Shaibu encouraged youths to take advantage of the opportunity to serve their nation.
He added that the new soldiers will undergo rigorous training to prepare them for modern warfare demands. Shaibu assured Nigerians that the Army remains committed to keeping the country safe and maintaining peace, especially in areas affected by insecurity.
