Tinubu’s Foreign Minister appeared on the Piers Morgan Show, stating that over the past five years, there have been 177 Christians killed and 102 churches attacked in Nigeria. He used these figures to highlight the government’s efforts in addressing religious violence and maintaining national security.
During the interview, the minister emphasized that while any loss of life is tragic, the numbers reflect the administration’s ongoing security interventions and attempts to curb attacks by bandits and extremist groups targeting communities.
Critics, however, questioned the accuracy of the statistics, arguing that incidents of religious violence are often underreported or not fully documented, and called for greater transparency in government reporting.
The discussion also touched on Nigeria’s broader security landscape, including challenges posed by terrorism, herder-farmer conflicts, and the government’s strategies to protect vulnerable communities and ensure peace across religious lines.
