Lagos begins major clearance at Tejuosho Market to restore environmental order

The Lagos State Government has begun a large-scale clearance operation at Tejuosho Market to address environmental concerns and restore order in the busy commercial hub. Authorities aim to remove illegal structures, blocked drainage, and debris that have contributed to unsanitary conditions.

Residents and traders were informed ahead of the exercise, with officials assuring that the operation is focused on improving hygiene, preventing flooding, and ensuring public safety. “The market must be clean and organized for everyone’s benefit,” a government spokesperson said.

The initiative also targets illegal street trading and improper waste disposal, which have long been challenges at Tejuosho Market. The clearance is part of broader city-wide efforts by Lagos State to enforce environmental regulations and enhance urban living conditions.

Local traders expressed mixed reactions; while some welcome the cleanup, others voiced concerns about potential disruption to business. Authorities, however, promised a balanced approach, allowing trade to continue in designated areas while maintaining order and cleanliness.
