NUJ mourns ace journalist, Dan Agbese

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of respected journalist and columnist Dan Agbese. Known for his sharp insight and fearless commentary, Agbese was one of the founding editors of Newswatch magazine and a major voice in Nigeria’s media industry for decades. His death has left a significant void in the journalism community.

In a condolence message, the NUJ praised Agbese for his commitment to truth, professionalism, and responsible reporting. The union noted that he played an important role in shaping modern journalism in Nigeria, mentoring younger journalists and standing firm for press freedom even during difficult political periods.

Colleagues and media practitioners across the country have been sharing tributes, remembering him as a humble, brilliant, and highly principled journalist. Many described Agbese as a man who never compromised his belief in ethical journalism and who consistently used his platform to promote national development.

As the nation mourns, the NUJ has urged journalists to honour Agbese’s legacy by upholding the values he lived for—integrity, courage, and dedication to the public interest. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon, as tributes continue to pour in for the media icon.
