The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 16 individuals in Edo State for allegedly transporting solid minerals without the required legal documentation. According to the Corps, the suspects were intercepted during routine patrols aimed at curbing illegal mining activities and protecting Nigeria’s natural resources from exploitation.
Officials explained that the vehicles carrying the minerals had no valid permits, prompting the arrests. The NSCDC said the operation is part of its wider effort to enforce mining regulations and ensure that all mineral-related activities follow the law.
The Edo State Command noted that illegal mineral transportation contributes significantly to economic sabotage, revenue loss, and environmental damage. The suspects are currently being investigated, and the seized materials have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for verification.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to stopping illegal mining operations across the country, warning individuals and companies involved in such practices to desist or face prosecution.
