A Nigerian court has directed former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Nwabuoku, to enter his defence in a high-profile money laundering case involving N1.96 billion.
The trial, which has attracted significant public attention, relates to allegations that Nwabuoku misappropriated public funds during his tenure. The presiding judge stated that the prosecution has presented sufficient evidence to require the former AGF to respond to the charges.
During the proceedings, the court emphasized the importance of a fair trial and urged Nwabuoku to cooperate with legal processes. The former AGF has previously denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the accusations against him are politically motivated.
The next hearing is expected to focus on his defence, where Nwabuoku will have the opportunity to contest the prosecution’s evidence and provide explanations regarding the alleged transactions.
This development marks a critical stage in the ongoing effort to hold public officials accountable for financial misconduct in Nigeria.
