Ex-EFCC exhibit keeper allegedly steals ₦22m from commission

A Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the trial of Polycarp Andrew, a former exhibit keeper at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who is facing allegations of stealing over ₦22 million from exhibits in his custody.

Presiding Judge Justice A. Bello fixed December 11, 2025, for the continuation of hearing after the defence counsel requested more time to review new evidence.

Andrew, who was a staff member of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, allegedly diverted funds that were part of exhibits under his care. He was said to have absconded after the theft was discovered, but was later arrested in Taraba State following investigations that linked him to the missing money.

During the court sitting, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge of criminal breach of trust. The prosecution counsel, H.M. Mohammed, told the court he was prepared to present two witnesses — an EFCC officer and a representative from Opay Bank.

However, the defence counsel, D.B. Kwajafa, sought an adjournment, explaining that he needed more time to review a flash drive containing a video recording of Andrew’s extra-judicial statement, which was recently served on him.

Although the prosecution opposed the motion, stating that the flash drive was not relevant at this stage of the proceedings, the judge granted the defence’s request and adjourned the case to December 11, 2025, for hearing.
