Ogun retirees beg Abiodun to approve Consequential Review of Pensions

Retired workers in Ogun State have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to approve the Consequential Review of Pensions, which they say has been delayed for too long. The pensioners explained that many of them are struggling to survive due to rising living costs and low monthly payments that no longer match current economic realities.

According to the retirees, the adjustment is meant to align their pensions with the salaries of serving workers, as recommended by law. They stressed that the review is not a favour but a right, and urged the state government to show compassion to elderly citizens who served the state for many years.

Speaking during a gathering, the pensioners revealed that some of their members are sick and unable to afford proper treatment due to financial hardship. They appealed to Governor Abiodun to approve the review quickly, saying it would help them live with dignity and meet basic needs like food, rent and medical bills.

The retirees also used the opportunity to call for the payment of outstanding gratuities, noting that several pensioners have died while waiting. They expressed hope that the governor will remember his promises and act urgently to relieve their suffering.

They ended their message by asking the government to prioritise their welfare, reminding the public that everyone working today will also retire one day.
