Lagos Firm Sues Wike for N200 Million Over Abuja Zoological Garden Land

A Lagos-based company, Micro Investment Limited, has taken legal action against the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and others over the revocation of a piece of land in Abuja intended for a zoological garden. The lawsuit, filed in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, also names the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and Praco International Limited as defendants.

Micro Investment Limited claims that the land, known as plot 582 in Kukwuaba District, was allocated to them on October 5, 1997. After paying all necessary fees, they were issued the Right of Occupancy and Certificate of Occupancy on March 25, 1998. However, during Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai’s tenure as FCT Minister between 2005 and 2007, all land title holders were instructed to re-certify their documents. The company complied and received acknowledgment in 2006.

The trouble began on May 25, 2023, when the company received a withdrawal notice based on a court judgment in favor of Praco Nig. Ltd. The land was then allocated to Praco on July 7, 2023. Micro Investment Limited argues that such revocation can only be done for public interest and not for another private company. They are seeking the court to declare their title valid and to award them N200 million in damages.

No hearing date has been set yet for the case.
