Two suspects arrested over altered product expiry dates in Jos – NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested two individuals in Jos for allegedly tampering with product expiry dates. The operation was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and prevent the circulation of unsafe products in the market.

According to NAFDAC, the suspects were found altering the expiry dates on various consumer goods, posing serious health risks to unsuspecting buyers. The agency described the practice as illegal and a violation of regulations governing the sale of consumable products.

NAFDAC officials stated that the suspects were detained after a thorough investigation, and further inquiries are ongoing to identify other parties involved in the scheme. The agency also confiscated affected products to prevent them from reaching consumers.

The agency urged the public to report any suspicious or expired products to NAFDAC offices in their area. “Consumers play a key role in helping us curb the circulation of substandard and tampered goods,” a spokesperson said.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigerians from health hazards and promised continuous monitoring of markets nationwide. The agency warned that offenders would face strict penalties under the law.
