Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has spoken out about the growing tensions within the party, claiming that the “devil is using some members” to create division. His comments come at a time when internal disputes and political disagreements continue to shake the party’s leadership structure. Damagum urged party members to remain united and avoid actions that could weaken the PDP ahead of future elections.
Speaking during a party meeting, Damagum emphasized that the PDP has faced many storms in the past and will survive the current crisis. He explained that every major political party experiences internal disagreements, but what matters is how leaders manage them. According to him, some individuals within the party are intentionally causing confusion instead of working for unity and progress. Damagum called on members to refuse negative influence and focus on strengthening the party.
The acting chairman insisted that the PDP remains the strongest opposition party in Nigeria and still has the support of millions of citizens. He stressed the importance of loyalty and cooperation among party leaders, urging aspirants and stakeholders not to allow personal ambition to overshadow collective interests. Damagum assured members that the party’s leadership is working on resolving all conflicts through peaceful dialogue and internal mechanisms.
He also warned those trying to destabilize the party for selfish reasons, saying that such behavior only serves political rivals. Damagum encouraged members to remain hopeful and stay focused on rebuilding the PDP for future electoral success. He added that unity, patience, and discipline are key to ensuring the party returns to power.
As the PDP continues to deal with internal disputes, stakeholders and political observers are watching closely to see how the leadership will handle the situation. The party leadership maintains that despite the crisis, it is committed to internal reform and will emerge stronger. Supporters believe that unity and reconciliation efforts will play a key role in determining the PDP’s future direction.
