Use Anambra election to redeem your image – LP candidate tells INEC

A Labour Party candidate has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take the upcoming Anambra election as an opportunity to rebuild public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system. He noted that many Nigerians doubt the commission’s neutrality due to recent controversial elections, and stressed that a credible process in Anambra would help restore trust.

According to him, INEC must demonstrate fairness, transparency, and professionalism throughout the exercise. He emphasized that the world will be watching the commission’s performance and encouraged officials to ensure proper deployment of voting materials, trained personnel, and functioning technology. The candidate added that people deserve an election where their votes truly count.

He also appealed to security agencies to stay impartial and protect voters instead of intimidating them. He said citizens should feel safe and free to exercise their rights without fear of violence or harassment. Ensuring a peaceful environment, he noted, will encourage more people to participate in the electoral process.

The Labour Party candidate highlighted that Anambra State has a history of politically active and informed voters. He called on residents to come out in large numbers and vote wisely, reminding them that the election is a chance to shape the state’s future. He also urged political parties to avoid hate speech and violence.

In closing, he warned that failure to conduct a credible election would damage INEC’s image even further. He encouraged the electoral body to prove its commitment to democracy by delivering a transparent, free, and fair election that Nigerians can be proud of.
