Troops arrest seven suspects in joint Benue–Taraba border operations

Security forces have arrested seven suspects during a coordinated operation along the Benue–Taraba border region. The joint mission, involving the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, was carried out to curb rising criminal activities and restore peace in communities around the border corridor. Officials say the suspects were linked to cases of armed violence, kidnapping, and illegal possession of weapons.

According to military sources, the operation followed credible intelligence reports indicating the movement of armed groups in the area. Troops stormed suspected hideouts and conducted thorough searches, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of weapons and other incriminating items. Authorities confirmed that the raid was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks along the border.

Security officers reported that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will face legal actions after screening. The military emphasized that the operation is one of several strategic actions designed to improve security across the region and protect lives and property. Residents were also urged to support the security forces by providing timely and accurate information.

Local communities have expressed relief following the arrests, noting that criminal activities have disrupted farming, transportation, and daily livelihood in the area. Community leaders appealed for continued security presence to ensure long-term peace and prevent the return of criminal elements. They also thanked security agencies for acting on their distress calls.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining security operations and improving stability along the Benue–Taraba axis. They stressed that peace and safety remain top priorities, promising to intensify surveillance and rapid-response strategies to tackle emerging threats.
