Police arrest three suspected gunrunners, recover AK-47, 730 rounds of ammunition in Kebbi

Security operatives in Kebbi State have arrested three suspected gunrunners and recovered dangerous weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and 730 rounds of live ammunition. The operation was carried out by the police after receiving intelligence reports on the activities of the suspects believed to be supplying arms to criminals in the region.

According to police authorities, the suspects were tracked and apprehended through coordinated surveillance. Officers said the items found in their possession are linked to illegal arms trafficking, a crime that continues to fuel insecurity across northern Nigeria. The successful arrest is seen as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks.

During the operation, the police reportedly recovered an AK-47 rifle, hundreds of ammunition rounds, and other related items. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to uncover more information about their suppliers and buyers. Authorities believe the arrest may lead to the capture of other individuals involved in the illegal arms chain.

Police officials commended their officers for the intelligence-driven operation and urged the public to continue providing useful information to help fight crime. They stressed that illegal weapons contribute to kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes in the country, and security agencies remain committed to reducing such threats.

The suspects are expected to be charged in court once investigations are completed. Residents expressed relief over the arrests, saying it brings hope for safer communities. The police assured citizens that more proactive security strategies will be deployed to prevent criminal activities and protect lives and property in Kebbi and neighboring states.
