Sheikh Gumi accuses US of arming insurgents, seeks peaceful solutions

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has again stirred public debate, alleging that the United States is involved in arming insurgent groups in Nigeria. While speaking in a recent interview, Gumi claimed foreign powers benefit from insecurity in Africa and are not interested in real peace.

According to him, instead of relying on foreign governments and military action, Nigeria should focus on dialogue and peaceful strategies to solve its security problems. Gumi argued that fighting violence with more violence only creates a cycle of conflict, and urged leaders to consider negotiation and community-driven solutions.

He insisted that many armed groups take up weapons out of frustration and lack of opportunity, not just criminal motives. Gumi stressed that addressing poverty, unemployment, and injustice will help reduce violence more effectively than military force alone.

The cleric also urged Nigerians to remain united and avoid allowing foreign influence to destabilize the country further. He called on the government to take charge of peace efforts and avoid overdependence on global powers.

His comments have sparked reactions across the country, with many calling for both firm action on insecurity and genuine peace efforts.
