Kajuru communities condemn fresh attack in Southern Kaduna

Communities in Kajuru and Kauru Local Government Areas of Southern Kaduna are expressing outrage after another deadly attack. According to community leaders, seven people were killed and one injured during an assault in Damakasuwa, Chawai Chiefdom, last Friday. The attack has once again heightened tension in the region and reinforced fears among residents already worried about persistent violence.

The Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations Forum, led by Dr. Billy Ishaya Laah and spokesperson Daniel Danau, described the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable. They noted that the attack happened even with security personnel, including soldiers and mobile police units, present in the area. According to the Forum, this raises serious questions about the effectiveness of existing security operations and the need for tougher and more strategic measures to protect rural communities.

Community leaders urged residents to remain calm while cooperating with security agencies to help track and arrest those responsible. They also offered prayers for the injured and families mourning loved ones. The Forum emphasized that the people of the area have always lived peacefully and said it is painful to watch their communities repeatedly targeted by violent criminals.

In their statement, the leaders called on the Kaduna State Government to intensify security patrols, increase surveillance, and take urgent steps to prevent further bloodshed. They stressed that no community should be left vulnerable or abandoned, especially in the face of repeated attacks.

Beyond calling for tighter security, the Forum also urged the government to address deeper challenges fueling insecurity. These include poverty, unemployment, and inadequate access to basic services. They insist that meaningful development and peacebuilding are necessary to stop the cycle of violence and restore lasting stability to Southern Kaduna.
