Govt Teargasses protesters, romances terrorists’ – Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer

Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, has strongly criticised the Nigerian government after the United States under President Donald Trump listed Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC). Ejimakor said the move was expected, arguing that authorities allegedly use teargas on peaceful citizens while showing tolerance toward violent groups.

In a post shared on X, Ejimakor posted a video of himself receiving oxygen, claiming he suffered health issues after being hit twice with teargas during a peaceful protest. He insisted that citizens have the right to protest without fear and warned that suppressing peaceful demonstrations damages Nigeria’s global image.

Ejimakor was arrested last month alongside activist Omoyele Sowore, Kanu’s brother, and others during a protest demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s release at the Presidential Villa. They were later arraigned at a Kuje Magistrate Court and eventually granted bail.

He revealed that he collapsed in detention due to the teargas exposure and was treated by medical staff in Kuje prison. Ejimakor added that the government’s reaction to peaceful protesters raises concerns about civic freedoms and democratic rights in the country.
