Six PDP, LP lawmakers defect to APC

Nigeria’s political landscape has shifted again as six lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The legislators announced their move during a formal session, saying they were aligning with a party they believe will better support development and provide stronger political direction.

The defecting lawmakers explained that internal issues within their former parties pushed them to look elsewhere. According to them, lack of unity, unresolved disagreements, and weak leadership structures contributed to their decision. They stated that joining the APC would help them better serve the people who elected them.

Leaders of the APC welcomed the new members warmly, describing their defection as proof that the ruling party remains attractive and progressive. They promised the lawmakers space to contribute meaningfully and assured them of a stable political environment. APC supporters celebrated the move, calling it a boost ahead of upcoming political activities.

On the other hand, reactions from the PDP and LP showed disappointment. Party officials criticised the lawmakers’ decision, saying it was motivated by personal interests and not the welfare of citizens. They vowed to rebuild their parties and remain focused despite the setback. Opposition voices also called for reforms to prevent further defections.

Political analysts say this development may trigger more movement across parties as elections draw closer. The shift is another sign of Nigeria’s dynamic political space where alliances change quickly. Many Nigerians hope that, beyond political switches, leaders will focus on real governance and improving the lives of citizens.
