Vigilantes foil IPOB attack in Anambra, kill one suspect

A group of local vigilantes in Ezinifite community, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, successfully stopped a suspected attack by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), on Monday morning. One of the attackers was reportedly shot dead during the confrontation.

According to reports, around 7:30 a.m., about 15 armed men invaded the community from neighbouring Imo State through the Amalum Village boundary. Members of the Agunechamba Vigilante Group said they quickly intercepted the gunmen and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

During the exchange of fire, one of the suspected militants was killed, while others escaped with gunshot wounds into nearby bushes. The vigilante group recovered a pump-action rifle from the dead suspect, whose body was later taken to the Ezinifite mortuary.

Police tactical teams were deployed to the area shortly after the incident, but the attackers had already fled. Security operatives have since cordoned off the scene and started bush-combing operations with the help of local vigilantes to track down the fleeing assailants.

Security officials praised the vigilante group for their swift action and urged residents to stay calm and support ongoing security efforts. Authorities assured the public that measures are being taken to ensure lasting peace and safety in Ezinifite and its surroundings.
