A fire outbreak on Sunday destroyed properties worth millions of naira at the Deeper Life campus ground, Sogunro, located along the Ibadan/Oyo Expressway in Oyo State. The inferno, which reportedly began in the school’s hall used as a store and kitchen, caused significant damage before being brought under control by firefighters.
According to the Oyo State Fire Service, the blaze was triggered by a gas leakage in the kitchen area. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, saw quick intervention from firefighters and police officers from the Moniya Division, who arrived promptly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said the fire was completely extinguished and no life was lost. “Upon arrival, it was a campus hall used as a store and kitchen engulfed by fire. Our officers swiftly swung into action and curtailed the fire, preventing it from spreading to other nearby buildings,” Akinwande stated.
He further noted that the ACFO Operations, Engr. Olaojo, alongside a police team, provided safety and security cover during the operation. The Fire Service also conducted a fire prevention lecture at the site to educate residents and staff on safety measures to prevent future incidents.
While the full extent of the property loss has yet to be determined, eyewitnesses said the damage ran into millions of naira. The Fire Service has since urged residents and institutions to ensure proper gas handling and maintenance of fire safety equipment to reduce fire risks.
