Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that defender Tosin Adarabioyo may be unhappy at the club due to limited playing time, despite being the oldest outfield player in the squad.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash against Sunderland, Maresca explained that every player, regardless of age, wants regular action — and Tosin is no exception. The 28-year-old centre-back joined Chelsea last season and made 15 starts out of 38 league games, but he has only featured in three matches from the start this season.
Maresca pointed out that the high level of competition within the squad makes it difficult to satisfy every player. “It’s not about age,” he said. “Even if you tell Tosin, who’s the oldest one, that he won’t play, he’s not going to be happy. No player is happy sitting on the bench.”
The manager added that while frustration is understandable, players must also accept the team’s rotation policy. He noted that both young talents like Estevao Willian and experienced players like Tosin face the same challenge — proving themselves to earn a spot.
With Levi Colwill and Benoît Badiashile sidelined due to injuries, Maresca hinted that Tosin could get a chance to start against Sunderland this weekend, as Chelsea look to continue their winning form in the Premier League.
