Europa League: Celtic boss provides injury update on Iheanacho

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has given an update on Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury after the Nigerian striker was forced off early during Celtic’s 2-1 Europa League win over Sturm Graz on Thursday night.

Iheanacho, who joined Celtic on a free transfer this summer, was replaced in the first half after appearing to pull up with a muscle problem. Speaking after the match, Rodgers confirmed that the Super Eagles forward had suffered a hamstring injury, raising fears of a potential long-term absence.

“The first two [Iheanacho and Johnston]? It doesn’t look great. It looks like hamstrings. But okay, that’s what happens,” Rodgers told TNT Sports.

Since his arrival at Celtic Park, Iheanacho has quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice striker, impressing with his work rate and finishing ability. His possible absence will be a big blow for Rodgers’ side as they continue their European and domestic campaigns.

The club’s medical team is expected to carry out further assessments to determine the extent of Iheanacho’s injury and how long he will be out of action. Fans are hoping the Nigerian forward will recover quickly and return to lead the attack.
