I don’t control Kano Government – Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims that he dictates the affairs of the Kano State Government. He clarified that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf runs an independent administration without external interference.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa as part of his 69th birthday celebration, Kwankwaso debunked rumours of disagreement between him and the governor, calling them politically motivated lies. “There is no problem between me and Governor Abba. We gave him the opportunity to perform, and he is doing his best,” he said.

The NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 election also warned party members against abandoning the Kwankwasiyya movement, stressing that defections would have political consequences ahead of the 2027 general elections. He cautioned that those leaving the movement should not expect electoral success in Kano.

“If anyone thinks he can leave us and still win an election in Kano, he is only deceiving himself,” Kwankwaso stated. “Our political movement will continue to take decisive action against betrayal.” He reiterated that loyalty and unity remain the foundation of the Kwankwasiyya ideology.

Kwankwaso further expressed confidence in the NNPP’s growing strength, saying the party would remain a formidable political force. He praised the youth for their increased political awareness and determination to protect their votes, adding that the era of manipulation in Nigerian politics was coming to an end.
