Gary Neville names best right-back in the world, EPL

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has hailed Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber as the best full-back in the Premier League. The football pundit, speaking on The Overlap, also ranked the Dutch international as the second-best right-back in the world, behind Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal. Neville praised Timber’s all-round ability, noting that his defensive intelligence and attacking contribution make him stand out among Premier League defenders.

Timber joined Arsenal from Ajax two years ago for around £38.5 million but was limited to few appearances in his debut season after suffering an ACL injury. However, he has since bounced back impressively, playing 48 matches across all competitions last season and becoming a vital part of Mikel Arteta’s squad. His performances have been a key factor in Arsenal’s strong start to the season as they continue to challenge for the Premier League title.

According to Neville, Timber’s quality and consistency set him apart from other defenders in England. He compared Timber’s style of play to that of Carvajal, highlighting his balance between solid defending and attacking support. “Timber is the best full-back in the league right now,” Neville said. “He reminds me of Carvajal — great going forward, but also shuts everything down defensively.”

Neville also commented on Arsenal’s overall defensive strength, claiming that all of Arsenal’s full-backs — Timber, Ben White, Calafiori, and Lewis-Skelly — are superior to Liverpool’s defenders. He suggested that this difference in defensive depth could be a decisive factor in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal’s dominance this season continues to draw praise from football experts, with many highlighting Arteta’s transfer strategy and squad balance as the foundation of their success. With Timber back to full fitness and playing at his peak, the Gunners appear well-positioned to maintain their challenge for domestic and European glory.
