Troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralized over 50 terrorists and successfully repelled a series of coordinated attacks on military bases in Borno and Yobe States. The simultaneous assaults occurred between midnight and 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, targeting military positions in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko, which fall within Sectors 1 and 2 of the Joint Operations Area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Maiduguri by Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK). He stated that the troops displayed remarkable bravery and professionalism, successfully foiling the terrorists’ plans and inflicting heavy casualties on them.
“In all instances, troops stood firm, fought gallantly, and professionally repelled the attacks, dealing the terrorists a heavy, decisive, and bloody blow,” Lt.-Col. Uba said. He added that the insurgents attempted to overrun several bases but were decisively defeated, with many of their fighters neutralized and others fleeing with severe injuries.
The statement also confirmed that the combined air and ground operations played a vital role in dismantling the enemy’s assault formations, preventing further incursions into nearby civilian areas. The troops have since embarked on clearance operations to track down fleeing insurgents and recover abandoned weapons.
The Nigerian military reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the Northeast region. It urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security forces with timely information that can aid in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
