Fake lawmaker, three accomplices arrested for alleged forgery, embassy scam

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested four suspects for their alleged involvement in forgery, impersonation, and criminal conspiracy. Among those detained is Honourable Hassan Sani Jikan Mallam, who falsely claimed to be a member of the House of Representatives for Katsina Central Constituency.

According to a statement from NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, the suspects were apprehended by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) while attempting to access the office of the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Audi, under false pretences. Investigations revealed that the fake lawmaker had been issuing forged official letters and complimentary cards with the title “Member, House of Representatives.”

The NSCDC disclosed that Jikan Mallam went as far as hiring a Prado Jeep and employing a police officer, Inalegwu Ameh, as a fake security aide. The group allegedly visited ministries and embassies, particularly the Spanish Embassy, where they attempted to process visas for multiple applicants while posing as National Assembly officials.

Recovered items from the suspects include fake National Assembly letterheads, complimentary cards, and forged correspondence addressed to embassies and government agencies. These materials were reportedly used to deceive government offices and foreign missions.

The NSCDC has vowed to prosecute the suspects to the full extent of the law, warning others involved in similar fraudulent acts to desist. The agency also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities.
