The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a four-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve the ongoing industrial dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

In a statement released on Monday, the NLC urged the government to take immediate steps to address the key demands of university lecturers to prevent a total shutdown of the education sector. The congress expressed disappointment that despite several negotiations, the issues surrounding funding, earned allowances, and the revitalization of universities remain unresolved.

According to the NLC, the prolonged strike has negatively impacted students, parents, and the nation’s education system. The body warned that if the government fails to meet ASUU’s demands within the given four weeks, it would mobilize workers nationwide for a solidarity protest.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, emphasized that the Congress stands firmly with ASUU in its struggle for better conditions in the education sector. He stressed that quality education is vital for national development and should be treated as a top priority by the government.

He further called on Nigerians to hold the government accountable for the continuous closure of public universities, insisting that the crisis can only end through sincere dialogue and commitment to agreements already signed.
