Tension is rising within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the suspension of its National Vice Chairman, South-South, and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Usani Uguru Usani. The party announced his suspension over alleged activities considered harmful to its unity and progress.
According to a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by James Otudor, one of ADC’s State Publicity Secretaries, the decision was reached during a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held on October 15, 2025, in Cross River State. The party said Usani’s actions violated the ADC Constitution and amounted to anti-party activities and insubordination.
The statement explained that the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a formal investigation. The committee also criticised the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, alleging that her selection lacked consultation with the state leadership and that she had not cooperated with the Cross River chapter since assuming office.
Furthermore, the ADC raised concerns about certain coalition members who publicly joined the party but have not completed their membership registration. The SWC warned against dual membership and directed all pending members to formalise their registration within seven days, ending on October 25, 2025.
The ADC urged members to remain calm and trust the party’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability. However, the recent developments have sparked fears of a looming internal crisis within the opposition coalition.
