Wale Edun Returns To Nigeria After UK Medical Trip

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to the country after spending some time abroad for medical treatment. The development comes after weeks of speculation about his health condition, News360 Nigeria reports.

A video currently making the rounds on social media shows Edun at Fraser Suites, Abuja, where he was reportedly spotted on Sunday. According to sources, the minister later held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation, joined by Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister for Industry, Trade, and Investment. This marks what appears to be his official return to duty following his recovery.

It was earlier reported that Edun had fallen ill and left Abuja for Lagos via a commercial flight before proceeding abroad for medical attention. During his absence, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso represented Nigeria at the World Bank and IMF annual meetings in Washington DC, as Edun was unavailable to lead the delegation.

Before his return, the minister was also seen at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London. A video that surfaced online captured him addressing guests, confirming his presence in the United Kingdom.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had earlier stated that Edun was in the UK for an officially approved short period of rest, following months of intense engagement in managing the Nigerian economy. With his return, many expect the finance minister to resume his critical role in steering Nigeria’s fiscal and economic policies.
