‘Focus on service, not ego’ – ADC to Wike over attack on Peter Obi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to focus on effective governance and public service rather than ego-driven reactions.

In a statement issued on Friday by Chukwudi Samuel, the ADC’s FCT Publicity Secretary, the party criticized Wike’s verbal attack on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as “undignified of the office he occupies.”

The controversy began after Obi’s visit to a government primary school in Abuja, where he lamented the poor infrastructure and learning conditions. Instead of responding with corrective measures, Wike reportedly reacted angrily to Obi’s comments, a move the ADC says reflects misplaced priorities.

According to the ADC, Obi’s remarks should have prompted immediate action from the minister to improve the state of public schools rather than hostility toward constructive criticism. “Leadership is about service, not ego,” the statement read. “If a citizen, no matter who he is, points out decay in governance, a responsible minister fixes it, not fights it.”

The ADC concluded by urging public officials to embrace humility, accountability, and responsiveness, emphasizing that genuine leadership requires listening to the people and addressing their concerns rather than defending personal pride.
