Remo Stars head coach, Tiago Conde, has expressed confidence and determination as his team prepares to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League second-round first-leg match at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on Sunday.
The Sky Blue Stars, making their continental debut, are aiming to make history by qualifying for the group stage of the prestigious competition. Conde acknowledged the strength of their South African opponents but insisted that his players are ready to give their all on the pitch.
“It’s a big challenge for us and a huge opportunity in our history. It’s a privilege to face a top team like Mamelodi Sundowns,” Conde said during a pre-match interview. “Our focus and determination are to do what we have never done — qualify for the group stage. It will be tough for both teams because, in the end, it’s eleven against eleven, and after 90 minutes, the result will decide everything.”
The Portuguese tactician noted that while Sundowns have experience and pedigree in African football, Remo Stars possess the hunger and ambition to compete at the highest level. He urged his players to stay focused, disciplined, and confident throughout the encounter.
The return leg is scheduled to take place in South Africa next week, where the overall winner will advance to the CAF Champions League group stage, a milestone that would mark a new era in Remo Stars’ football journey.
