2027: Peter Obi won’t contest, only enjoying media attention – LP Secretary

The National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP) loyal to Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has said that former presidential candidate Peter Obi is only enjoying media publicity and will not be contesting in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, Ibrahim stated that despite Obi’s recent remarks confirming his membership in the Labour Party, he has no genuine interest in running for president again. The party secretary claimed that Obi had already been offered the LP’s presidential ticket but turned it down.

“I can tell you, Obi is not going to contest the presidential election. Obi is enjoying media publicity but 2027, he is not interested in it. We have offered him the presidential ticket, he rejected it,” Ibrahim said.

He also expressed concern over Obi’s political direction, suggesting that his recent engagements have created confusion about his loyalty to the party. According to Ibrahim, opposition parties, including the Labour Party, have become too weak to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) effectively in 2027.

This statement comes just a day after Peter Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, insisting that his name will be on the ballot in the upcoming presidential election.
