LASG Denies Role In FESTAC Demolitions Following Accusations By Emenike

The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the recent demolition of buildings in FESTAC Town, following accusations by former footballer Emmanuel Emenike and other affected residents. The government stated that it had no knowledge or approval of the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to due process and fairness in all urban development matters.

In a statement titled “Lagos Government Denies Involvement in FESTAC Demolition”, the Director of Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, said the exercise was not sanctioned by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. He clarified that any demolition within the state must follow legal and administrative procedures, including proper notices to affected property owners.

Commissioner Oluyinka Olumide further explained that Lagos operates under strict urban development regulations, and any demolition outside these processes does not reflect the policies of the Sanwo-Olu administration. He stressed that the state government prioritizes fairness, transparency, and respect for citizens’ property rights.

Olumide also cautioned federal agencies and private entities operating in Lagos to seek proper clearance before embarking on any demolition or enforcement activities. He emphasized that the government would not condone unauthorized actions capable of causing hardship to residents.

The statement comes after reports that over 15 buildings were demolished in FESTAC’s 6th Avenue over the weekend, leaving traders and residents counting their losses. The government assured Lagosians that it would investigate the incident to ensure accountability and prevent a repeat of such occurrences.
