The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially banned all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students. The directive was announced in a circular signed by the Registrar, Mr. Ademola Bobola, on Tuesday in Benin City. The management warned that any student found violating the order could face serious disciplinary actions, including expulsion, rustication, or withdrawal of certificate.
According to Bobola, the decision was reaffirmed during a management meeting held on Monday. The university restated its earlier Senate resolution, emphasizing that activities such as signing on T-shirts, playing music, or holding large gatherings will not be tolerated on campus. He added that UNIBEN would not condone any form of disorderly conduct or unauthorized parades during or after examinations.
The circular also noted that unauthorized vehicles will be barred from entering the campus during the final week of second-semester exams. Additionally, photographers are prohibited from setting up stands for the purpose of taking sign-out pictures, and parents of final-year students were advised to avoid visiting campus during exam periods to maintain order.
Bobola explained that the university’s strict stance was to uphold discipline, peace, and academic decorum. He urged students and members of the university community to comply with the directive, warning that violators will face severe sanctions. UNIBEN now joins other institutions such as UNIZIK, Federal University Lafia, IBB University, Kaduna Polytechnic, and UNIPORT, which have also banned sign-out celebrations.
