In a tragic incident in the Bolari area of Gombe State, three individuals lost their lives due to a violent clash involving hoodlums known as Kalare boys. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) commandant, Muhammad Bello, clarified during a press briefing on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, that this incident was unrelated to the ongoing protests in the region.

Incident Details

The clash occurred on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, when a dispute within the ranks of the Kalare boys escalated into violence. This internal conflict led to the deaths of three people. Commandant Muhammad Bello emphasized that the killings were not linked to the protests currently happening in Gombe State. “The Kalare boys killed three at Bolari, but it had nothing to do with the protest. They had a misunderstanding within their ranks which led to the clashes,” Bello explained.

NSCDC’s Response

In response to this incident, the NSCDC has taken significant measures to ensure the safety and security of the residents. Bello assured the public that the NSCDC is well-prepared to handle any situation, emphasizing their readiness to protect lives and property without resorting to violence. “We are ever ready, combatant ready, but not going to shoot anyone,” he stated.

To enhance security, the NSCDC has deployed 600 officers across Gombe State. These officers are tasked with safeguarding federal, state, and local government assets, as well as protecting the lives and properties of the citizens. Bello highlighted the importance of collaboration among various security agencies to effectively manage the situation and maintain peace.

Call for Support and Cooperation

Bello also called for the return of officers who are currently on break to bolster the security efforts. He stressed that the protection of property is a free service provided by the NSCDC, urging anyone in need of security cover to request it. “Anyone you know who has more than one of our officers should be called back. Protection of property is free. Anyone who comes requesting for security cover should be given,” Bello stated.
