Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has openly admitted that he once benefited from election irregularities in the past. Speaking during a public event, Aregbesola said it was time for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to end what he described as “BIVAS abracadabra” — a reference to alleged manipulations of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System during elections.
Aregbesola stressed that Nigeria’s democracy would only grow stronger when electoral bodies conduct free and transparent elections. He added that political leaders must learn to accept defeat gracefully rather than relying on rigging or manipulation to stay in power.
The former governor of Osun State urged INEC to review its election management process and ensure technology is used to promote credibility, not confusion. He emphasized that every vote should count and that the confidence of Nigerians in the electoral process must be restored.
