Edo: No $250m investment deal, Okpebholo in Scotland for vacation – Ex-commissioner

A former Edo State Commissioner has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Monday Okpebholo secured a $250 million investment deal during his trip to Scotland. The ex-commissioner clarified that the governor’s visit was purely personal, stating that Okpebholo was actually on vacation and not on any official business.

He accused the government’s media handlers of misleading the public with false information about nonexistent investment partnerships. According to him, there was no meeting, signing, or negotiation with any foreign investors during the governor’s stay abroad. The statement further warned against using propaganda to score political points ahead of the state’s upcoming elections.

The clarification has generated discussions among Edo residents and political watchers, with many expressing disappointment over what they describe as an attempt to inflate the government’s achievements. Others called for transparency and urged the administration to focus on real economic reforms rather than image polishing.

The governor’s media office has not yet responded to the ex-commissioner’s statement, but sources within Government House insist that Okpebholo remains committed to attracting genuine investors to Edo State in the coming months.
