Tragedy struck Ondo State when Debbi Olakunbi Adene, a 54-year-old businesswoman and well-known caterer, was found murdered in her home on July 28, 2024. The news comes just five days after she celebrated her birthday in high spirits.
Debbi Adene, the CEO of Country Kitchen and Event, had been in good health leading up to her death. On July 23, she marked her 54th birthday with a lively party at her residence on Oda Road, Akure. The celebration included a variety of wines and drinks, and Adene shared many moments from the event on her Facebook page, receiving numerous congratulations from friends and family.
However, the festive mood took a dark turn when her lifeless body was discovered on July 28. According to reports, Adene was found in her bed, surrounded by a pool of blood. The brutal nature of the crime, as she was reportedly hacked to death, has left her family and community in shock.
Her husband, Dele Adene, expressed his disbelief at the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. He questioned why there have been no arrests yet and why no one in the building, which houses four flats, heard anything suspicious. Dele also raised concerns about the lack of progress in tracking his wife’s phone, which might provide crucial leads in the case.
Tejumade Adene, the deceased’s daughter, received the devastating news from the caretaker of their building. She had been trying to reach her mother by phone, only to learn later that her mother had been found dead. The shock of her mother’s sudden and violent death has been overwhelming for her family.
The Ondo State Police Command, represented by SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. At this stage, there are no known suspects, and the police are working to gather more information to solve the case.
The body of Debbi Olakunbi Adene has been taken to a mortuary in Akure for examination. The community is left grappling with the loss of a beloved figure, and many are hoping for swift justice as the investigation continues.
