Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly criticised Adamawa local government chairmen for sponsoring their wives on a trip to Turkey. He described the move as a “mockery of governance,” saying such actions show a lack of sensitivity to the hardship Nigerians are currently facing.
Obi noted that at a time when many citizens are struggling with poverty, hunger, and insecurity, government officials should be focused on providing solutions rather than wasting public funds on luxury trips. He stressed that true leadership means sacrifice and accountability, not self-indulgence.
The statement has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians backing Obi’s view. Critics believe that such decisions by local leaders further fuel distrust between the government and the people, especially at the grassroots level where citizens need urgent development projects and relief.
