Akwa Ibom court sentences dismissed soldier to d3ath by hanging for m8rder of businessman who offered him a lift

An Akwa Ibom State High Court has sentenced a dismissed soldier, Ekaette Udoh, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of murdering a local businessman who had offered him a lift. According to the court’s ruling, Udoh betrayed the victim’s kindness by attacking and killing him in cold blood.

During the trial, the prosecution presented strong evidence showing that the dismissed soldier deliberately planned the crime. Witnesses revealed that the deceased was only trying to help by giving him a ride, but Udoh turned against him and ended his life. The judge described the act as “wicked and inhuman,” stressing that such crimes must not be condoned.

The ruling has drawn mixed reactions among residents of Akwa Ibom. While many praised the court for ensuring justice, others expressed sadness that a former soldier, trained to protect lives, could commit such a crime. The case is seen as a reminder of the need for stronger discipline and monitoring of security operatives, even after their service.
