Two Nabbed In Kebbi For Illegal Mercury Smuggling And Impersonation

Security operatives in Kebbi State have arrested two suspects over their involvement in illegal mercury smuggling and impersonation. The arrests were made following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered the suspects’ activities, which posed both economic and environmental threats. Mercury, a substance often used for illegal mining and other harmful practices, has been a major concern for authorities due to its dangers to health and the environment.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were not only smuggling mercury but were also involved in impersonating government officials to facilitate their illicit trade. Their actions reportedly misled unsuspecting individuals while undermining law enforcement efforts. Authorities noted that such crimes fuel illegal mining operations, weaken the economy, and put communities at risk of toxic exposure.

The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges in court after the investigation is concluded. Officials have also warned members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid dealing with individuals claiming to be government representatives without proper identification. The Kebbi government and security agencies reassured residents of their commitment to clamping down on illegal mining and related criminal activities in the state.
