Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has officially left the Labour Party (LP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). His defection marks a significant political shift in Enugu politics, as Chukwu was elected under the LP platform during the 2023 elections.
Announcing his decision, the senator explained that his move was driven by the need to align with a political party that can better support his vision for development in Enugu and Nigeria at large. He added that joining the ruling party will give him more opportunities to deliver meaningful projects to his constituents.
The APC leadership in the state welcomed Chukwu warmly, describing his defection as a major boost for the party’s strength in the Southeast. Political observers say the senator’s move may further weaken the Labour Party’s influence in the region, especially as the 2027 elections draw closer.
