Ex-aig Petitions US Embassy, Says IGP Egbetokun Shielded Indian Accused Of Rape

A former Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) has petitioned the United States Embassy, raising serious allegations against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. According to the petition, the ex-AIG accused the police boss of shielding an Indian national accused of rape instead of ensuring justice was served.

The petition has sparked concern among rights groups and legal observers, who insist that issues of sexual violence must not be compromised regardless of nationality or influence. The matter has also generated debates on police accountability and Nigeria’s commitment to upholding justice, especially when foreign nationals are involved.

The US Embassy is yet to officially respond to the petition, but civil society groups are calling for a transparent investigation to restore public confidence in the police and the justice system.
