Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has dismissed claims that the President plans to extend his tenure beyond 2031.
Onanuga’s response came after former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, alleged that Tinubu might attempt to remain in power longer than the constitution allows. He stressed that President Tinubu respects Nigeria’s democratic principles and has no intention of ruling beyond two constitutional terms.
He further urged Nigerians to ignore unnecessary political distractions, insisting that the administration remains focused on delivering its promises of economic recovery, infrastructure growth, and good governance.
The statement has since stirred political conversations, with supporters praising the reassurance while critics maintain that such concerns show a lack of trust in Nigeria’s political class.
