Federal Government Suspends Import Duties on Essential Foods to Combat Hunger

In an effort to tackle hunger and reduce living costs, the Federal Government of Nigeria has decided to suspend import duties and taxes on essential food items. This move aims to make basic necessities more affordable for Nigerians, who are facing economic challenges due to global inflation.

Bashir Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), announced this measure in a public address. He highlighted that the suspension is part of the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on its citizens and addressing widespread hunger.

In addition to removing import duties, the NCS is working to streamline export processes. This includes introducing new systems to make it easier for Nigerian goods to reach international markets. These reforms are expected to help farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs by providing faster access to global markets, thus benefiting their communities.

Adeniyi also mentioned that the NCS is stepping up efforts to control the flow of dangerous weapons and arms through Nigeria’s borders. He stressed the importance of peace and cooperation to strengthen the country’s borders and warned that disruptions in the supply chain could hurt foreign investment and economic stability.

In conclusion, Adeniyi urged all Nigerians to work together to overcome current challenges and build a better future for the nation.
