Abdulrahaman Ahmad, the son of popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, has completed his training at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). The achievement marks a continuation of the family’s connection to the Nigerian military, as Sheikh Gumi himself once served in the army and rose to the rank of captain before retiring.
The news of Abdulrahaman’s graduation was made public on Sunday when former senator Shehu Sani shared a photo of father and son on his X account. In his message, Sani congratulated Abdulrahaman and wished him success in serving Nigeria through the military.
Sources revealed that the official graduation ceremony for the NDA cadets will take place on Saturday, September 27. The viral photograph making rounds on social media is said to be from a pre-graduation event ahead of the main ceremony.
This milestone comes amid ongoing public attention surrounding Sheikh Gumi, a cleric often in the headlines for his controversial views. However, the graduation of his son is seen as a proud moment for the family and a new beginning for Abdulrahaman’s service to the country.
