Edo Govt demolishes four houses linked to cultists

The Edo State Government has demolished four houses allegedly linked to cult activities in Etsako West Local Government Area. The operation was carried out by the state’s Special Security Squad, also known as Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers, following recent killings linked to cult clashes.

According to John Izegaegbe, Secretary of the State Security Squad, the houses were identified as hideouts and meeting points for cult groups, including the Black Axe and Eiye confraternities. Weapons and cult insignia were recovered from one of the demolished houses in Auchi, which authorities said was directly connected to a recent murder.

The security squad also arrested 20 suspected cultists during the raid. Among them were two young men, aged 17 and 21, who admitted they had been recruited to engage in cybercrime activities, popularly called Yahoo Yahoo. A related operation was also conducted at Hybrid Hotel and Suites in Uzairue, where additional arrests were made.

Officials warned that the demolition exercise was a clear signal to cultists and their sponsors. Eribo Emwanta, a member of the security team, urged parents, community leaders, and hotel owners to remain vigilant. He stressed that more properties linked to cultism will be pulled down in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive to rid Edo State of criminal networks.
