Primate Elijah Ayodele, a popular Nigerian religious leader, has made a shocking claim about the 2027 election. He said that US President Donald Trump is planning to use former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan against President Bola Tinubu.
This prediction was shared in a post on X by Chudé, along with a video of Ayodele. According to him, foreign leaders may play a role in Nigeria’s upcoming election, just like in 2015 when many believed the US supported Muhammadu Buhari against Jonathan.
Ayodele’s warning comes at a time when Tinubu’s government is under heavy criticism. Many Nigerians are complaining about tough economic policies, rising costs of living, and worsening insecurity from Boko Haram and banditry. Despite these issues, the ruling party, APC, has already endorsed Tinubu to contest again in 2027, showing their confidence in his leadership even as opposition parties remain weak.
The mention of Trump in this matter is unexpected because he has shown little interest in African politics. During his presidency, Trump reduced US aid to Africa and paid little attention to the continent’s problems.
This makes Ayodele’s statement surprising, but it also reflects a familiar trend where people suspect foreign powers of influencing Nigeria’s elections, especially during tense political seasons.
