A leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has said that the frequent change of textbooks in schools is making life harder for parents and guardians.
Speaking on Tuesday, Oguntoyinbo called on the Minister of Education, Mr. Tunji Alausa, and other key players in the education sector to stop the practice of changing textbooks every year.
He explained in a statement that both private and government schools often replace textbooks each term, forcing parents to keep buying new ones for their children.
Oguntoyinbo reminded that in the past, younger siblings used the textbooks of their elder ones. He stressed that the government should put an end to the regular changes because many parents are already suffering financially.
He also appealed to the Minister of Education and state governors to address the issue, adding that parents are struggling badly due to this trend.
Finally, Oguntoyinbo asked both federal and state governments to reduce the prices of textbooks so that parents can cope better with the cost of their children’s education.
